5 Unexpected Uses for Olive Oil
From your pantry to your beauty routine: Olive oil hacks for National Extra Virgin Olive Oil Day
Hello, Gorgeous!
I teach a variety of beauty classes every month in person and virtually. One of my students' favorite topics, regardless of their age or life stage, is the unexpected beauty benefits of everyday foods or items found in your pantry.
Yesterday I wrote about honey infused products and taught about the beauty benefits of apples. Since today is the extremely important holiday of National Extra Virgin Olive Oil Day (there really is a holiday for everything!), I figured I’d share some unexpected uses for olive oil.
Reasons to love olive oil
Aside from using olive oil as a moisturizer in a pinch or a cuticle softener, here are a few ways to use it as a quick beauty fix.
🫒Eyebrow Tamer and Shaper. Use a clean spoolie with a tiny drop of olive oil to shape unruly brows. Or skip the spoolie and apply a bit of olive oil to the pad of your pointer finger and blend up. It’s like a natural brow gel that also conditions the hair. It’s also great for dry or flaky skin near your brows.
🫒Ring Remover. I’ve noticed that my rings fit better in the fall, but every now and again a ring still gets stuck. Massaging a tiny bit of olive oil around the band makes it slide right off, and it won’t dry out your skin the way soap and water might.
🫒Temporary Tattoo/Dramatic Makeup Remover. Planning an over-the-top Halloween look? Saturate a cotton ball with olive oil to gently remove stubborn temporary tattoos, face gems, metallic makeup, and those ultra-long-wear lip stains that refuse to budge. The oil breaks down adhesive and pigment without harsh scrubbing—your secret weapon for the morning after your most dramatic beauty moments.
🫒Sticky Lash Glue Dissolver. Speaking of dramatic makeup, if you ever struggle to remove false lash glue residue from your lash line, olive oil can help (but be extra careful if you wear contact lenses). Saturate a cotton pad with olive oil and hold it on closed eyes for 30 seconds. The glue dissolves without pulling out real lashes.
🫒Dessert! And finally, have you been following the trend to drizzle olive oil over vanilla ice cream? I haven’t, but it’s wildly popular. Corto Olive Co. just launched their limited edition gift sets, including the Agrumato-Method Olive Oil Gift Set, which has an incredible Lemon Verbena Olive Oil. While I don’t see olive oil and ice cream in my future, I think this would be perfect to use when baking a citrus-infused olive oil cake ($42, corto-olive.com).
Am I the only person who hasn’t tried olive oil on ice cream? Let’s meet in the comment section to discuss!
