Hello, Gorgeous!
It’s Earth Day, a perfect time to do something nice for the planet — or for someone living on it. Animals of the National Parks is a stunning illustrated book that is sure to put a smile on anyone’s face, and inspire a lot of wanderlust.
Animals of the National Parks
I needed to decompress over the weekend so I curled up on the couch and fell into the illustrated magic of the national parks with this A-Z book. Did you know that there are 59 national parks? I was sad when I realized how few I’ve actually visited. I’m not sure why I never realized just how many incredible creatures are habitants of the parks, from American Bison (the largest mammals in the parks) to a variety of birds called Xeme. There are tiny tidbits throughout the book about each park dweller.
While this book is touted as being for children 3-5, it isn’t really. There’s no sing-songy rhyming or cutesy singular anthropomorphic characters. What there are though, are absolutely breathtaking illustrations by New York Times bestselling illustrator Kim Smith.
The book is compiled by Fifty-Nine Parks a renowned art collective supportive of public lands. They’re best known for their original poster art, which celebrates America’s national parks and features the work of prominent artists from all around the world. Fifty-Nine Parks donates proceeds of poster sales to the National Park Service. The series is archived by the Library of Congress.
You can pre-order this book now, it’s out on May 6 ($18.99, Amazon).

National Parks are a national treasure! Gosh, I've been to more than I realized: Zion, Arches, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Grand Tetons, Grand Canyon, Olympic, Redwoods National Park, Yosemite and Yellowstone, and I might be missing a couple. There is so much beauty in the U.S.--it's worth protecting at all costs. Happy Earth Day every day.
