Ahh. Aveda.
I'm only slightly obsessed with this new skincare collection
Hello, Gorgeous!
Late-ish last year Aveda teased a new skincare collection…with an embargo date. I hate embargoes for many reasons. First off, please don’t make me mark my calendar to keep track of when I can rave about something. I prefer to provide fresh content, so scheduling something for long weeks away can make me feel less enthused about a product. As it turns out, I’m still wild about this collection.
Aveda Advanced Botanical Kinetics
As described in brand copy, Advanced Botanical Kinetics, is a “rejuvenating skin care collection with targeted products that plump skin with hydration, help reverse the visible effects of collagen loss, and activate skin’s natural energy.”
Nice, right? But it’s so much more. My skin can get super dry during winter months and no matter what I do, nothing really helps. Which is why I didn’t have a whole lot of hope for the new Aveda line. Sure I love anything Aveda, but I wasn’t sure it would have that super-softening result I crave. So I proceeded with skeptical optimism. Even as I read the products were powered by an interesting trifecta of skin-loving technologies: Phytotech Vegan Collagen, a Vegan Peptide Complex and Kinetic Energy Infusion. Sounds impressive, right? I’ll be honest. I didn’t delve too deeply into the tech behind the products, I just tried them out.
Here’s the entire collection:
Revitalizing Essence Lotion ($65): This might be my favorite product in the line, since I’m a sucker for a really good essence. Use it to prep skin - it works on lines and visible pores. It also adds a lovely layer of moisture. I kind of dig the fact that the formula features a retinol-like alternative in the form of blue-green algae.
Vitality Serum ($85): Oh my goodness. I tried the rest of the line before trying this serum. Here’s what I noticed: It’s extremely lightweight but it still seemed to firm jowly areas while softening the look of lines near my eyes. Honestly? I felt glowier after a few uses.
Plumping Milky Lotion ($65): This is an extremely low-key way of adding a surge of moisture to your face. I like to use this after a shower when I’m not quite sure just how many layers of skincare I’m willing to commit to. And yes, it works well even on its own!
Plumping Creme ($90): Where have you been all my life? I was actually stunned at the plumping effect of this cream after a single application. Notable: It was incredible after jet lag to make my face look a bit softer and less post-overseas flight haggard.
Micro-Purifying Cleansing Mousse ($40): I tend to avoid intense cleansers but this one is super light and transforms to a foam as you massage it in. Of the entire collection, this is the one I’m least rah rah about.
A moment of truth. If you wanted to try only one product from the line, I’d tell you to check out the plumping creme. It is fluffy and doesn’t clog your skin and you’ll see noticeable results. If you want to try two, I’ll recommend the serum as well, since it’s a one-two punch of a moisture surge you can lock in. That said, if you want to have fun with your tried and true skincare, check out the essence. I love me a good essence and this one has such a lovely immediate effect (well. it does if you’re the type of person to really look for it). In all, this is quite possibly one of my favorite Aveda launches ever. Try it and let me know what you think!
What are you using on your skin this winter? More importantly, do you ever try out an entire new collection like I did with Aveda? Let’s meet in the comments to discuss!
