Hello, Gorgeous!
John Legend has amazing skin and looks unruffled even after an extended night out, and I know this firsthand, but probably not for the reasons you may think. Many years ago we exchanged a sheepish grin as we simultaneously exited a building in Manhattan and each embarked on an early morning walk of shame. Only Legend — flanked by bodyguards— strode over to a tricked out SUV, while I tried not to wince in my too-high heels (I told you it was many years ago) as I gave up looking for a cab and limped to the subway.
While Legend glistened and glowed, I looked crumpled and defeated. And I’ll be honest, I still can’t keep up with his glow. But a new launch from the EGOT’s skincare line could help.
Loved01 skincare is for every skin type, especially melanin-rich skintones
In case you missed it, along with the pricey launches by male stars Brad Pitt (Le Domaine, now Beau Domaine) and Jared Leto (Twentynine Palms), John Legend launched his own skincare line, Loved01 in early 2023. It was a modest launch in price and outlets and sold for about $15 a product on QVC and places like Walmart.
While Legend has previously partnered with Kiehl’s and SK-II, and also invested in male skincare line Bevel, this was his first solo venture. Well, sort of. The line was formulated by board certified dermatologist Dr. Naana Boakye.
Since Loved01 is meant to support the unique skincare needs of deeper skintones I asked my pal Dya to simultaneously test it out with me. I like this line, don’t get me wrong, I just didn’t see any remarkable results. And while it’s still affordable, prices are creeping up.
Loved01’s New Brightening Serum ($29) is vegan and cruelty free. It has the requisite buzzy ingredients including Mandelic Acid to exfoliate, Niacinamide to bighten skin and strengthen the skin barrier, and Azelaic Acid to help with hyperpigmentation, and it’s meant to be non irritating to even the most sensitive skin. I saw no noticeable results, but still like most of their products (The Soothing Cleansing Wipes smell great and are super portable). And while I tend to get cranky about many celebrity brands, for some reason I’m still cheering John Legend’s vanity project on ($29, loved01.com).
Have you tried Loved01 and/or do you have a soft spot for John Legend? Let’s meet in the comment section to discuss!
