Hello, Gorgeous!
It’s Halloween tomorrow, which means that we’ll be seeing all kinds of ghosties and goblins hanging around. At least that’s for one day of the year. The rest of the year we have to worry about sketchy beauty trends that are truly scary.
Here are some to avoid year-round (except for Halloween, of course).
Over-laminated brows: Let’s all agree that the soap brow look —where actual soap is used to groom eyebrows — has gone too far. While those stiff brows might work on social media, in real life it’s hard to focus on anything but those unnaturally shaped brows.
Super-thin, over-plucked brows: The flip side of brows on steroids are thinly plucked ‘70s/’90s era brows making a comeback. No. We must quash this before it can begin again. It can take years to grow back and it’s flattering to no face.
Black lipstick without lip prep: Black lipstick can look amazing when done right. When done without first exfoliating, it kinda looks like a sad goth experiment gone wrong with black pigment settling into every crack and line.
Filter addiction: One of my cousins is a truly lovely individual. But if we weren’t related by blood I’d have no idea of who she actually was outside of social media. In real life, she’s cute! Approachable! Stylish! On Insta, though, she filters her images so heavily that she almost looks like she’s achieved ghost-like perfection - Think Nicole Kidman in The Others. Cute for Halloween, creepy for year-round.
Heavy lipliner/nearly nude glossy lips: I understand the temptation to flirt with aggressive lipliner. I truly do. But it’s not a look that translates well to Zoom meetings or even in-person (Unless of course you’re Megan Thee Stallion in which case, carry on). Instead, try to play around with color gradations instead - dark-ish lip liner, medium color on lips, gentle gloss in the lower center of your bottom lip.
Are there any other makeup or beauty trends you’d like to see disappear forever? Let’s meet in the comment section to discuss.
