Hello, Gorgeous!
Yesterday I mentioned actress Ginnifer Goodwin’s fabulous bright blue eyeliner. Some of you very correctly reminded me that electric blue might not suit all skin tones. For some, midnight or deepest blue might be a better pick. Which made me think of some trends we can and should always avoid.
It’s a story I share often, but many years ago, legendary makeup artist Linda Mason created looks encompassing bright splotches of color on the eye area and upper face. As a budding makeup artist I was mesmerized. I also didn’t realize that this might not be great makeup for real life. And so yes, there was a day when I proudly sported puce, fuchsia, and royal blue splotches near my eyes and artfully applied on my upper cheeks.
Thankfully, I’ve since learned that some trends aren’t designed for life beyond the runway.
Loving the skin you’re in
Every few years there’s a new skin trend we’re told is the ultimate beauty ideal.
Just before the pandemic, Glass Skin — the Korean-inspired look that encompassed poreless, perfect skin achieved with just under a dozen products and procedures — started gaining popularity.
That perfectly luminous look was too much for some, and so glass skin begat Cream Skin, the less labor intensive pursuit of the same great look. But, wait! then came Dolphin Skin. Because don’t we all want to resemble giant aquatic mammals whenever possible? The reality of the trend is less gross. It simply meant looking as dewy and sleek as a dolphin fresh out of the water. Yeah. That’s kind of awful as well.
The thing is, we all want skin that looks great. But we probably don’t want to spend six hours a day working on it, or $600 a week on products to improve the efficacy of our existing products.
I hope you realize what I already know. You’re already perfectly beautiful inside and out. It’s just fun to play with products and try on new trends sometimes.
I hope you know that when I mention or review a product I love, it’s because I think you might like or love it too. I’m reporting back to you on trends or products that might enhance your life at some point. You don’t have to rush out to buy it. In fact, I hope reading Hello Gorgeous! helps you to become a smarter or more satisfied consumer. One who realizes what I already know - you’re already perfectly beautiful inside and out.
