Hello, Gorgeous!
I was rearranging my closet recently and for a very brief moment thought of arranging things by color. Then I laughed at myself and moved on.
The vast majority of my wardrobe is black or denim with a smattering of accent colors (hello, fuchsia!). And yet when I’ve run into people lately they gasp and compliment me on my cute outfits. Why, you may ask? Because my leg wear is anything but subtle.
Color for days
If you’re struggling for a quick update to your classic everyday look, may I suggest some colorful tights? I’ve included a few options and they all have extended sizing!
Target has a line of fantastic 50 denier* opaque tights that come with or without control top. I’m a bit obsessed with the dark burgundy which are a near perfect match to my fave fall booties ($10, Target.com).
All the colors. Prefer to shop by color? We Love Colors has a massive selection of hose including dance wear, tights, socks and stockings. I’m especially obsessed with their microfiber lavender tights which are actually a bold saturated orchid. Prices vary and you can check out their color selection here.
Retro patterns. I’m not ashamed to admit that while I’m long past my preppy prime, I’ve never gotten over argyle everything (and was horrified recently to hear an alleged influencer refer to the pattern as plaid). These argyle tights are subtle enough to pass for classic black, while adding a slight edge to your outfit ($13, DSW).
Extended patterns and extended sizes. Sock Dreams has long been a resource for me for tights for myself and cute gifties for friends. If we ever have a Hello Gorgeous! meet up, I think we should all be wearing these fishnet heart patterned tights. I’m pretty sure these are going to be in my immediate future. In fact, excuse me while I go order a pair ($16, sockdreams.com).
If you’re still on the fence about adding color or contrast to your outfit, you can even start with a slight hint of tint, or wear with longer skirts for a tiny color pop. It’s an easy and extremely affordable way to add personality to your overall look.
*The denier count measures how thick a woven fiber is, so in this case it lets you know how opaque your leg wear is. The higher the count, the thicker the hose; so 50 denier are nice for fall, while 120 is super thick and great for the dead of winter.
Love colored or patterned tights as much as I do? Let’s meet in the comments to discuss!

Quick note: I included some affiliate links which means I might earn a small commission, but I also throw in stuff I love just because. Prices are current at publish time.

So happy that playful tights are back!! I’m in need of a serious reboot. Also have arranged my closet by color and it also doesn’t help lol! All the seasons next to each other & still no clue what I have or “need”!
I love tights and honestly, I like patterned hose as well because I enjoy what it can bring to an outfit.
