I love when you write to me with your burning questions. Here’s a variation/ compilation of one I’ve received from several of you:
What’s the deal with all those expensive mini versions of mini makeup products? I’m thinking of taking some on vacation. Am I destroying the planet by using them?
Some hard truths about mini makeup products
The beauty industry has a problem with plastic waste. It’s estimated that 120 billion units of packaging are produced annually. More disturbing yet is the fact that about 70% of the package parts aren’t recycled or recyclable. And if you want to be really depressed, even if made out of recyclable plastic or parts, mini makeup products are not recyclable at all, because they’re too small to fit into standard recycling sorting machines.
So, in theory using makeup minis when traveling is a great idea. In practice, you’re probably helping contribute to landfills. What now?
