With ponytail hats and hoods you don't have to choose between style and comfort

There's the particularly weird challenge of trying to wear a baseball cap to hide bad hair days while not knowing what to do with your ponytail.

Several companies have created ponytail-friendly caps that let you work out or hide your hair without losing your flow.

Ponytail hats are a thing

I wonder if you’ll be as surprised as I am to discover just how many companies are now making ponytail-friendly hats. To clarify, these are beautifully styled, come in loads of colors and have extra space to pull your ponytail or messy bun through.

• Ponyflow Hats seems to be the OG of ponytail hats. I keep meaning to test one out, because I’m curious about the comfort factor. Anyway, they go way beyond baseball caps to sports specific hats and this super cute sun blocking hat which protects your face from damaging sun rays while letting your hair hang loose ($30, ponyflohats.com).

• Notch makes hats that have room for both your ponytail and your sports sunglasses. There’s a notch cut into both sides of the brim for maximum eyeglasses and sunglasses comfort ($30, notchgear.com).

• Helly Hansen has about a bazillion great options for being sporty and outdoorsy. I’m neither, but I met with some brand reps a few weeks ago and can’t wait to tell you about their fall gear in a couple of weeks. Meanwhile, most of the hoods on the jackets made for women have a nifty space to pull your pony through including this cute hooded fleece jacket which will be great for summer travel ($83, hellyhansen.com).

• Ponyback Hats seems to specialize in high ponytails (I wear mine at the nape of my neck for full Revolutionary War era chic). They also have a magnetic closure to get the fit right and are meant to breathable even during sweaty workouts during the summer ($73, ponybackhats.com).
