Spring Into the Weekend
The weekend roundup includes the floss of my dreams, a setting spray that doesn't settle into wrinkles, managing overthinking, and an ode to my cans
Hello, Gorgeous!
It’s not only time for the weekend, but time for the first weekend of springtime! Hurrah. Before we get to that part, you can catch up on any posts you’ve missed below, or head over to the archives for a deeper dive.
ICYMI, here are the posts from earlier this week:
Nude Kid in Town: A rich body butter from Nudestix
Not So Ordinary Blackhead Solution: The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution eliminates blackheads without destroying your skin
DIY Cheekbones: Forget complicated contouring, these easy to use beauty sticks make you look flushed + defined
The Pain of Shopping for Replacements: Do you really need another tube, bottle or jar?
And let us commence the first spring of weekending! This time around let’s discuss small things that help you ease into spring.
Silky dental floss
Last year was hellish for me and my teeth. And while I’ve always been nearly vigilant about flossing daily, I’ve also been in search of products that make it easier. I’m not sure how to explain just how much I love Biom’s Silk Expanding Dental Floss. Halloweeny color palette aside, this floss expands on contact with your saliva, so it gets deeper to get rid of gunk. It’s also cruelty-free and comes in reusable packaging. It’s minty fresh by way of eucalyptus, and also infused with Nigella Sativa (Black Seed Oil to you and me) which is believed to combat bacteria and reduce gum disease and even help with tooth pain. I had a dental appointment yesterday and my dentist couldn’t stop raving about how well I’m caring for my teeth. I’m pretty sure this floss helps ($10, Amazon).
A springy setting spray
I used to travel to Europe a lot back in the day. In fact, I was one of those annoying people with a travel bottle of Evian water constantly misting my face in flight. Dibs recently launched LoveBeam Setting Spray which is an awesome spritz for setting makeup, hydrating skin, or blurring the look of your contour. It also smells lovely and is loaded with quirky skin loving ingredients including alkaline water, Snow Mushroom Extract, Kombucha Black Tea Ferment and Goji Berry extract. Bonus points: It keeps makeup from settling in the fine lines near your eyes or mouth ($28, dibsbeauty.com).
A facial humidifier
With the new gen humidifiers, you can keep one near you at (almost) all times. Hey Dewy’s Wireless Facial Humidifier is rechargeable and wireless. It also provides a slightly thicker mist than other similar products I’ve tried and tested. There’s also a neat soft evening illumination effect, which adds to the spa feel. I’ve become a bit obsessive about giving my face a mist right before applying my nighttime skincare. It’s also awesome for springtime allergies, Use near your face after some time out in highly pollinated areas, or if you’re having a springtime allergy attack. Small but mighty and really cute. It also comes in five colors ($48, heydewy.com).
A water bottle tote
It’s that time of year when you start to carry around a reusable water bottle in earnest. Hydrobag makes a very nice line of water bottle bags that also have two very deep zippered pockets so you can store your phone, keys, and any other essentials. They also come in loads of different patterns and textures with different crossbody or hand straps. It’s a perfect bag for weekends when you need stuff near you, but not all the stuff! ($59 and up, wanderfullbrand.com).
Cans appreciation post
Okay, not a full post, but a blurb. A few years ago, I tested Shure 50 wireless noise cancelling headphones for an article I was writing. I try a lot of products (most end up donated to charity), but I couldn’t resist and kept the Shure cans. I’m so glad that I did. I love the way they fade exterior sounds and distractions but don’t make me feel cut off from necessary interruptions. The sound is still consistently incredible with no hissing or tinniness, but pure crispness. I love using these for my morning and before bed deep-breathing breaks. While Shure products can be pricey, they last. These Aonic 50 Gen 2 are similar to the ones I’ve been using for about five years ($349, Shure.com).
Stop overthinking
Trying to find ways to put your overthinking on pause, at least for the weekend? I’m a huge fan of Harvard Business Review press for their excellent book series that tackle life and career hot topics. You’ll find great advice distilled from previous articles in these snackable (or larger) books. This time around it’s Emotional Intelligence in Managing Overthinking (it’s out in a matter of days).
This really resonated with me:
Signs to watch out for:
You fixate on negative feedback
You’re overly cautious, perhaps double or triple-checking your work because you want to avoid mistakes.
I like reading books with a business mindset over the weekend since I’m in a less stressed headspace ($20, Amazon).
Need a health coach?
My brilliant friend Sacha Cohen recently became became a certified health coach. You may recognize her name from her wellness articles, or her aspirational newsletter A Good Vintage, where she talks about her time in/plans to move to France. Visit Sach’s cool new website to find more info on her coaching services on everything from weight management to relationships.
Not ready for full coaching? This fabulous cupid has some tough love for you that might help.
And that’s it for this week. Do you have any weekend plans or will you be contemplating the contents of your fridge? Let’s meet in the comment section to discuss!
