Hello, Gorgeous!
If it rains for much longer in New York, I’m going to start building an ark.
In the meantime, I need a new umbrella because the winds were so crazy yesterday that my favorite orange one suffered an untimely demise. I think I’ll make it a museum gift store umbrella.
Pretend to Spend the Day at the Museum
Remember when we discussed Art Bathing a few weeks back? Well, some days you really wish you could be at the museum but have to work instead. Here are a few cute ways to surround yourself with art in a completely different way.
Fake a visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Take shelter under the Met's Beaux-Arts entryway with this collapsible umbrella. ($40, metmuseum.org).
Crown yourself with art. This Jean-Michel Basquiat Canvas Bucket Hat features his iconic signature graphic. It also protects against bad hair days ($55, moma.org).
Blue skies ahead (just for you!). It’s hard to believe that this fantastic design has been around for over three decades, but the MoMA Design Store has been selling this Sky Umbrella by legendary graphic designer Tibor Kalman and Emanuela Frattini Magnusson since 1992 ($55 moma.org).
Incidentally, MoMA has a bunch of cute umbrellas to choose from here.
Is anyone else a sucker for museum gift stores/museum umbrellas? Let’s meet in the comment section to discuss!

I'm a huge fan of museum gift shops. When I was still writing for the Chicago Tribune, I helped with one of their gift guides, and it was all about shopping at different museums.
Love museum gift shops too - and the blue skies umbrella has a terrific Magritte-y vibe.
