You know those super comfy foam-soled sneakers you’ve been wearing. Did you ever wonder what happened to all the material discarded post-production? Footwear industry veteran Leah Larson did, and Oprah noticed - Fleks made her Favorite Things list this year. I guess the grand O is equally impressed that Larson figured out a way to upcycle all that foamy goodness to create stylish new slides.
It’s a Fleks: Sustainable slides made from sneaker scraps
How does it work? Fleks Footwear collects the remains of EVA foam discarded in sports shoe production and repurposes it to create ultra comfortable footwear. In a bold marketing move, Fleks explains the process on the inside of each shoe box. It includes the fact that their products are made of 85% recycled materials. And don’t worry that you’re wearing the remains of someone else’s stinky sneaks. The foam used in Fleks is virgin foam that would have been burned or discarded.
