💓Weekend Mode: Galentine's Day
Sleep better, snack better, smell better...and maybe swaddle instead of cuddle!
Hello, Gorgeous!
I received a pitch earlier this week about divorce jewelry, you know, baubles for celebrating the great breakup. This after years of being told to define ourselves through engagement rings, cocktail rings, right hand rings…The list goes on. I don’t know about you, but I’m just fine treating myself — or my besties — to something simply because it struck my fancy. And I certainly don’t need to break up to break out some sparkle. Galentine’s Day seems like the perfect day to celebrate the love that nurtures you most (of the time).
Last year I wrote:
“I never refer to my female friends as gals, and I’ve never watched Parks and Recreation. That said, I’m a big fan of Galentine’s Day, which is celebrated on February 13th and was created by Amy Poehler’s character on the show.”
Who cares about the origins of this most auspicious holiday? Let’s find cute things for ourselves or the ones we love most of all. Not because we broke up with someone, but because we celebrate our true loves, our girlfriends or best friends.
She can buy herself flowers
Roses are nice. I mean, I love it when someone (or some me) sends me a gorgeous bouquet. But flowers wilt — a great perfume lasts forever. Altaia's By Any Other Name is the rose that never dies: a sultry, modern blend of Rose and Peony with sweet Litchi nectar and smoky Cedarwood that's basically a dozen roses in spritz form. ($255, travel spray $72, beautyhabit.com).
Along those lines, Herbivore recently launched a body care line and I’m a little bit in love with the Coco Rose collection, and specifically the Tremella Milky Body Mist. It’s infused with a lot of the skin-loving ingredients you already use on your face including squalane, coconut oil, and coconut water. It also smells heavenly in a non-cloying way, and it’s a perfect way to add some moisture to your parched skin ($28, Ulta).
Organic Dark Chocolate Coconut Date Truffles
Random. I’ve been spending a good part of the past week making homemade date balls. They taste amazing but take too long to make (and clean up after). Also, the ingredients are expensive. That’s why I’m particularly thrilled about That’s It organic dark chocolate coconut date truffles. They’re vegan! They taste incredible! They have fewer than 50 calories per truffle and don’t have any questionable sugar alcohols or sweeteners that end up making me sick. No exaggeration that these could be my favorite snack of the year ($30, thatsitfruit.com).
A full body hug
You know how cute babies look all swaddled? Well. Here’s something a little bit different. Swaddelini adult full body compression sock is like a much harder working body stocking. Think less Flashdance and more spa on the go. Apparently, the slight compression has a lot of the same effects as a weighted blanket which could include activating the parasympathetic nervous system, mimicking a hug to calm the body, lower heart rate, and reduce cortisol (stress hormone) while boosting serotonin and melatonin (mood/sleep hormones), creating a sense of security and relaxation. This calming effect has been used to ease anxiety and improve sleep for those with conditions like anxiety, insomnia, ADHD, etc. Cool, right? But I still don’t think I’ll be wearing it while traveling ($75, swaddelini.com).
More satisfying time in bed…
..Asleep. That’s what I meant! And avoiding a sleep divorce.
If staying asleep is your challenge, check out Ozlo Sleepbuds, which use engineered audio to quiet the world around you. Snoring partner? City noise? Those downstairs neighbors who imitate billy goats galloping at midnight? Gone. I’ve been testing these out and they’re toss and turn proof, even for side sleepers. They also work with Bluetooth so you can stream white noise, podcasts, whatever knocks you out. TIME Magazine named them one of the Best Inventions of 2025, and I’ll give it a +1. I’m also going to do a deeper dive review on these at some point! ($300, ozlo.com).
Temporary tats (for your face)
I’m pretty sure you’re never too old for this adorable Sweetheart Eye Liner, Fazit has an entire collection of cute V’day inspired hearts and kisses and Cupid’s bows ($16, fazitbeauty.com).
Cute Claws
RPZL is best known for their extensions, but they also make the cutest hair accessories. While I love their claws with hearts, I find myself gently obsessing over the Acetate Cherry Claw Clips which has a low-key Rockabilly vibe ($25, rpzl.com).
And don’t worry, we’ll talk actual Valentine’s Day gifts next week!
So are you a Galentine’s Day fan, or is it another silly made-up holiday you skip? Let’s meet in the comments to discuss!
