Hello, Gorgeous!
It’s the second to the last weekend of summer and I don’t know about you, but I feel like I need something different. And by something different I mean something that I already know and love that feels different.
This weekend I’m inspired by noir films and their moody black and white styling, and very slight bit of sophisticated or cloying sweetness.
Inspired by Noir
A beribonned cardi. If the days are getting slightly cooler where you are, a light jacket or cardigan can keep you warm and pull your outfit together. This cotton-blend pointelle sweater from Torrid is plus-size friendly, has lovely openwork and tiny black bows ($49, torrid.com).
Crisp looking loafers. In ancient times, women wore gloves and hats at all times and no one wore white after Labor Day. These sleek Cecelia New York black and white loafers allow you to extend your white era by a few weeks. They also have a sexier cut than traditional loafers (Yes. I’m aware of the fact that the words sexy and loafers aren’t frequently paired) so you can wear them to play dress up ($149, Dillard’s).
A charming hobo bag. This Lexi bag by Brighton isn’t particularly practical, but it sure is cute, with a black leather body and domed heart-shaped studs. I heart this ($440, brighton.com).
An updated pearl bracelet. No need to clutch your pearls. This elegant and air design by Pearls by Shari builds on the Tin Cup designs from the mid-90s. This version pairs ten stunning Akoya pearls with 18k wire ($2,950, pearlsbyshari.com).
Femme fatale lips. No need to be subtle about it, sometimes you really need a bold brick lip color to make your point. NYX Pro IV Hydrating Gloss Stain in Bubblegum Burst combines deep color with vinyl-like shine ($12, Ulta).
A Hitchcock-inspired novel. I know what I’ll be doing this weekend - reading The Hitchcock Hotel by Stephanie Wrobel, newly in paperback. It’s hard to resist a mystery set in a Victorian mansion-ish in the White Mountains featuring round-the-clock movie screenings, film props, a film class reunion, and of course - a dead body. I’ll report back on whodunit ($19, Amazon).
Ready for the weekend? I suddenly feel inspired to binge watch a whole bunch of Hitchcock movies. Let’s meet in the comment sections to discuss!
