Weekend Mode: Pistachio for Early Autumn
Forget butter yellow, pistachio everything is hotter than ever and a great seasonal transition color
Hello, Gorgeous!
The world has gone absolutely nuts for pistachio, and I'm here for every single shade and flavor.
Earlier this summer we were informed that butter yellow was the color of the moment. And it was. Briefly. But as the days get shorter and summer vibe segues to fall, pistachio is a better option.
Pistachio is less shocking than summer’s most vibrant shades, and a nicely mellow alternative to pastels. Beyond that, the fascination with pistachio scented and flavored everything is here to stay.
Go for the green
Pistachio as a color is surprisingly flattering. Slightly lighter than sage, slightly punchier than mint, pistachio offers a bit of a playful challenge. Sometimes you’ll find pistachio-hued products that have a hint of zesty yellow to them. I tend to find blue undertones in pistachio are more flattering to most complexions.
Here’s a short list of pistachio products you might love:
Ease into autumn with a head to toe pistachio inspired accessories.
A great looking hat. My love of great headwear extends well past summer. I’m definitely coveting this Lack of Color wool Pistachio Rancher hat with it’s 4” wide brim. It’s light enough to almost be neutral, but adds a bit of oomph to any monotone outfit ($149, Saks.com).
Comfy and chic. For some reason I get a ton of compliments whenever I wear my favorite green sneakers. Naturalizer Morrison3.0 elevate the look of tennis shoes to everyday chic (on sale now for $70, zappos.com).
Nails, Skin & Scent
Perfect (long-lasting) pistachio polish. Dazzle Dry cream polish in what else? Pistachio! ($22, dazzledry.com).
Body lotion pistachio potion. EOS Creme De Pistachio body lotion is enriched with all kinds of skin-loving ingredients, yet somehow still manages to go on light. Note that this scent is a bit warmer, with a burnt vanilla scent as well ($11, evolutionofsmooth.com).
Anti-aging pistachio face oil. Irene Forte formulations are super gentle even as they work hard to help skin issues. This anti-aging face oil uses pistachio as a key ingredient to seriously help summer parched skin look softer and less red ($180, ireneforteskincare.com) Random, but I find myself infinitely amused that the site is now offering a free sarong with any $300 purchase.
Pistachio scented perfume. A cosmetic chemist I know is frequently frustrated that people don’t love the authentic scent of food-based products, but rather their idea of what it should smell like. I feel like that’s the case with D.S. & Durga’s Pistachio Eau de Parfum which seems a bit more spicy than nutty ($300, neimanmarcus.com).
Weekend viewing (through your fingers over your face)
Also, if you love horror movies (as I do), you’ll enjoy the completely nuts The Monkey, now streaming on Hulu.
[I’m not putting in a trailer in case you hate horror movies. I don’t want to foist it on you!]
Based on a 1980 short story by Steven King, it’s gory, but also a ton of fun. Directed by Osgood Perkins (son of actor Anthony Perkins, ya know, Norman Bates in Psycho), the film explores the sometimes damaging legacies and connections between fathers and sons. Some critics didn’t think lead Theo James (playing the adult version of twins Hal and Bill Shelburn) was right for the role but his droll delivery was perfect contrast to the scary parts. The title design was incredible. Look for a cameo by Perkins as Uncle Chip.
DIY Dubai Chocolate: Incidentally, you can skip buying ridiculously expensive Dubai Chocolate and make your own. Or a very lazy version of it. Bake then crunch up some phylo dough. Mix well with ground pistachios and white chocolate (I use Ampo D’Oro Pistachio Butter Sweet Spreadable Cream instead), and drizzle or dip into dark chocolate. Instant yum! Or skip the rest and throw some chocolate chips into the pistachio butter and eat with a spoon.
Love everything pistachio? Love or hate horror movies? Let’s meet in the comments to discuss!
