Weekend Mode: Self Soothing
Kinder, gentler weekend treats including a new drop from Elizabeth Arden, a mango mask, a deep blue soak, shorts that flatter every tush, Play-Doh Barbie, and a one-hand mini vac
Hello, Gorgeous!
As mentioned last week, from now through Labor Day, the weekend roundup will run on Thursdays.
This time around let’s discuss the fact that whether or not the weekend shows up, sometimes we still have to finish up whatever plagued us during the week. That doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be time for relaxing in a big way. Or a small way if that’s all you’ve got time for!
Who wears short shorts?
Not I. Never. But I do however wear these ridiculously comfortable and oddly flattering Bermuda Shorts from J.Jill most weekends. They’re soft, comfy, and stretchy. And while the length hits above the knee, I order them in Tall for a little extra length and a little less wobble on display ($49, Jjill.com).
Filler on the go
I’m not inclined to use needles near my face (unless I’m at the dentist). No judgement if you do, but you might also want to check out Elizabeth Arden Hyaluronic Acid + Peptides ceramide capsules. Like all of the brand’s ceramide capsules, these seem to magically pack a host of skin healing ingredients into a tiny package. This version is clinically proven to instantly plump skin by 39% in ten minutes. Apparently, this topical wizardry involves a formulation that includes size-shifting micro-HA, 500x smaller than traditional Hyaluronic Acid and penetrates skins layers 4x deeper. While I’m not qualified to comment on that specific level of efficacy I can report that these tiny skin treats are perfect for travel or when you want to amp up the radiance and softness. There’s also a new water cream which is a fantastic summer skincare option since it’s light and potent. (Am I raving enough? I LOVE these. $99, elizabetharden.com).
A foaming gel body wash
I feel like every time I turn around there’s a new and amazing launch from Tree Hut. I went from, who is this brand? To GIVE ME MORE! Ahem. While I’m not a foam of musk in general, I heart Tree Hut’s Blue Musk Foaming Gel Wash with a Heartleaf and Juniper Berry base, along with the slightly spicy pink pepper and tonka making this a really refreshing scent for your next soak ($10, Ulta).
Mango, mango, mango
It’s been a while since I’ve used a face mask that wasn’t some sort of intense actual gel mask or a paper K-beauty variant. Behold: Osmosis Tropical Mango mask is easy to apply (definitely a non-gunky formula) and uses mango seed butter to give tired skin a lift. I left it on for about 12 minutes before using a washcloth dipped in tepid water to remove the mask. I loved the result. The slightest bit tack, but overall so, so, soft ($56, osmosisbeauty.com).
A one-handed mini vacuum
I’m pretty sure I’ve regaled you all with my obession with vacuums. I’m not pretending it’s normal. It just is.
This week I revisited the Ayla Vacuum which is tiny and ergonomic with two speeds. I was initially a bit turned off by the promo copy which touts this as having “functional design for parents” while being perfect for new moms.” That’s entirely possible. What’s interesting to me is that it’s also the perfect tiny kitchen vac for rice or cereal mishaps ($69, aylabag.com).
Play-Doh Barbie Florals and Fringe Designer Doll Set
And finally, remember Fashion Plates? Gen X kids like me spent endless hours drawing schmancy wardrobes using pink plastic coloring plates.
I’m not going to pretend that you need this or want this. But if you intend to spend time with a young person over the weekend, you can buy this Play-Doh x Barbie set and create hideous adorable Cowboy Carter Barbie Play-Doh fashions ($20, Target). And yes. I really want to try this set!
So have you checked out yet for the weekend? Planning to cook anything amazing? I’m making Mediterranean chicken with sun dried tomatoes and olives. Or at least that’s the plan. Let’s meet in the comment section to discuss!
