Weekend Mode: Winter is (Almost) Coming
Warm treats to lift your mood
Hello, Gorgeous!
While I don’t like winter, I do like the fact that where I live weather changes seasonally. And while fall is arguably the most beautiful time of year in the northeast (deciduous trees FTW!), it also means that winter is just around the corner. Here are some products to warm you up, inside and out:
A featherweight jacket
While I love feeling toasty warm, I detest the feeling of a heavy winter jacket. The Helium Down Hoodie by Outdoor Research is designed for outdoor winter sports, but is perfect for braving the everyday elements. Here’s what I really love: It’s light as the responsibly sourced 800+ goose down feather fill. The shell is made of Pertex nylon materials, which insulates you from cold winds or rain (or snow), with extra detailing (read waterproofing) on the head and shoulders. There are also so many added details like an adjustable hood, comfy pockets and the ability to easily pack it without bulk. And lest I rave without stop - two more things: It’s available in plus sizes and comes in beautiful, wearable color combos ($299, outdoorresearch.com).
Work to weekend boots
Love to hike? I don’t blame you. But my days are spent trekking on concrete instead of trails. I recently found out about Danner boots which are mostly designed for outdoor sporty moments, but work really well as stylish accessories. The Tramline Chelsea boot is made of cool looking suede, but it’s still waterproof and breathable for all-weather protection. They’re immediately comfortable, but you’ll need to spend a small amount of time getting used to putting them on and taking them off ($220, danner.com).
An air humidifier
You know who else hates this time of year? My skin. I feel like my face is even more sensitive than usual with redness and flaking brought on by the indoor heat. Did you know that Clorox makes home gadgets to improve your air quality? I’m rapidly becoming addicted to the Clorox Air Humidifier for bedroom. And before you tell me about how humidifiers are little petri dishes for germs, you' should know that there is built in germ-reducing technology in this one in the form of a UV LED light at the base that helps reduce the growth of bacteria and mold in the water. My favorite part is the easy to fill and easier to clean water tank and the perfect amount of steam it produces (you can choose the mist output). I definitely sleep better since I started using this one ($70, Amazon).
A new pillow
Speaking of better sleep, losing an hour to the clock change can really do a number on sleep patterns. This would be a great time to treat yourself to a new pillow. Right now I’m loving the Luxome Dual-Chamber Pillow, which is like a high-tech sneaker (lightweight, comfortable, cutting edge) only for your head while you’re asleep. There’s a genius dual-chamber design combining two types of fill: a down alternative ball fiber in the outer chamber, mixed with a responsive inner chamber of latex noodle and down alternative blend. What I love about this combo is that it’s soft as a feather but still supports your head and neck. The cover is removable and washable, plus it’s certified STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®, meaning it’s tested safe for direct skin contact and free from harmful chemicals ($80, luxome.com).
A Hair Tools Bag
Planning on schlepping all your tools with you over the holidays? Kusshi just dropped a signature neoprene mauve hair tools bag that’s heat-resistant up to 380˚F. It also has a bunch of pockets (for hairspray or brushes), pouches, and zippers. It’s also machine washable an has cute handles making it easy to clean and transport ($89, kusshi.com).
A ghostly romance
My sister always teases me saying I only recommend British mysteries. Not so. I’m in the middle of slow-bingeing Spirited, an Australian romantic dramedy series from 2010, about dentist Suzy Darling and a dead 80s punk rocker Henry Mallet. There’s something ridiculously sweet about a (dead) guy having a chance to work through his past mistakes falling for a woman who starts over with a lot of baggage including an ass of an almost ex-husband and two complicated if adorable children. Some of the plot devices are almost bizarre and veer way off course, but the connection and love story between two people who find love in the most unexpected ways is really endearing. And the longing feels like the popular G-rated Amish bonnet-ripper romances. You’ll also see some familiar faces including Yael Stone from Orange is the New Black, and Sarah Snook from Succession. You can stream it on Acorn TV and Prime Video.
So what are your weekend plans? And if you watch Spirited can you pop back in so we can dish? Let’s meet in the comments to discuss!
