Hello, Gorgeous!
For better or worse summer weekends are here. And while I love the slower pace, there's something about the heat that leaves everything feeling...flat. Your hair goes limp, your energy dips, and suddenly the only temptation you can think of is a nap. Or ice cream. Or ice cream followed by a nap.
This weekend, I'm sharing products that literally and figuratively add volume back to your life; From lashes that boost your flirt appeal to planners that help you tame your life so you don’t feel overwhelmed. Think of it as a head start to combat summer sluggishness.
Lashes that reach for the sky
Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara has been having a moment, and I’m here for it. First off, call me petty but I love the package design. It’s architectural and glam all in one. In lash news, the brush grabs every single lash and builds serious volume without clumping. Try Plum Twighlight which adds a very subtle pop of color and is particularly flattering for hazel or brown eyes. Perfect when your summer look needs at least one dramatic element ($12.99, Amazon).
Hair that’s fluffy and not flat
I am having so much fun with Vollie, a new line of products that add volume to even baby-fine hair. Vollie Super Soft Mask strengthens and softens hair with ceramides and collagen. That in turn makes hair stronger which makes you look like you have more going on. If your hair tends to be greasy, avoid applying near roots ($44, vollieverse.com).
Taming the frizz factor
A couple of weeks back I featured some great new goodies from Goody. Here’s another one perfect for humid workout days when your hair has too much volume (and not in a good way). Goody Sport Forever Scrunchies are stronger than most, so when your hair goes boing, they still stay in place. They’re also quick dry so your hair won’t drip all over your neck. ( $6.49 for two on Amazon).
Sound solutions for summer
Let me start off by saying how excited I was to test out these Skullcandy Method 360 ANC Headphones. They’re perfect for creating your own peaceful bubble, whether you're working from a noisy coffee shop (unless of course you work better with that kind of ambient noise), or trying to meditate in the midst of chaos. Most importantly, the sound is phenomenal, crisp without being jarring, and it really does temper sound if not drowning it out entirely (I definitely heard bird song, but not traffic when testing outdoors). Fair warning: the charging case is a bit awkward to tote around daily, but the sound quality makes it worth it for weekend escapes ($129.99, Skullcandy.com). P.S. we’re not up to graduation gifts yet, but this makes for a great dorm room gift.
Plan it, not panic
When life feels extra overwhelming, sometimes you need a paper life coach to get away from all the tech clutter. Clever Fox Planner PRO Non-Dated Weekly Planner delivers. This 8.5" x 11" undated planner helps you define goals in a non overwhelming way while helping you to actually incorporate them into daily life. It’s also undated so you can start fresh whenever you need a reset - no January guilt required. (About $34.99, Amazon).
If you love using a beautiful planner, you should check out the Laurel Denise Academic Year Planner in the gorgeous pink sherbet floral cover because beautiful tools make planning feel less like work. The patented design lets you see your day, week, and month all at once, which is perfect for people (like me) who feel scattered by too much information. There's something about July that always kicks my energy into high gear and I start using a new planner ever year at this time. This horizontal planner is one of my faves yet. (Starting at $52, Laureldenise.com).
The tiniest home makeover
Sometimes taming life's volume means a mini home makeover - and the Levenger Cubi Platypus Stand-Up Desk Converter in stunning natural cherry wood proves that small changes make a big impact. I was hesitant about inviting it into my home office, but I love the way it works as extra desk storage, display space for tchotchkes, or even a modified lap desk in a pinch. It's one of those pieces that helps organize your beautiful or necessary objects so they add to your space instead of cluttering it ($209, Levenger.com).
When volume really matters
If the above idea resonates with you, you’ll love Joanna Gaines new series on mini home renovations Mini Reni, Wednesdays on Max.
Meanwhile, in a world that often feels like it contains too much negative noise, sometimes we need content that speaks to deeper values and human dignity. Reformed is based on the book by Rabbi Delphine Horvilleur. It’s the story of Léa, a newly ordained female rabbi. The show explores faith and Judaism with nuance, skepticism, and respect. Let’s label this one meaningful volume in a sea of superficial entertainment. Notable, this is a French series with wit and bittersweet life lessons, and the opening credits are stunning. While I usually avoid watching dubbed versions of foreign shows, the voice actors are remarkably good on this series (though the subtitles are frequently different than what the characters are actually saying). Watch Reformed on Max.

Love these roundups!! Highly recommend Reformed. Nuanced characters - intergenerational religious dynamics - and psychologically astute. Love the shrink father character's insights and misses! 👏
