Hello, Gorgeous!

From time to time I’ll receive questions from readers questioning basic rules about beauty. I love when that happens! The so-called rules are there because they work with classic looks or coloring, but they’re not set in stone. In fact, they’re not even rules.

Yesterday I ran into a friend who mournfully mentioned the fact that she’d never worn green eyeliner in her life. She said that with her hazel eyes she always felt like she was supposed to be wearing some variation of purple or navy blue. Not true at all. Here’s why.

Ignore the rules

Most makeup rules use the color wheel for influence, but it also relies on color theory instead of real life choices. So in the same way that green and red are opposite on the color wheel (as opposed to the one above), green eyes might be enhanced by burgundy. Yellow and purple are on opposite ends of the color spectrum, which is why hazel eyes are enhanced by plum shades. But again, these are suggestion…
