I'm totally in agreement with your points! I read an article where Mike White commented on female friendships or something similar and admitted not really understanding the dynamic (or something like that). I feel like the season was a mishmash of themes and in the end it was a group hug dynamic even though they also can't stand each other.
I agree 100% with your description of the show writ large. However, I was consistently disappointed with season 3- unrelatable characters overall (with a few exceptions), unresolved storylines and - for me- a lot of wheel spinning. I get the spiritual over/undertones. I get the foreshadowing. I'm impressed with how Mike White tells a story. But overall, for me, this season was a MEH. In the end, I didn't really care what happened.
And I agree 100% with your analysis. I don't think there was enough tension for an eight-part arc. I kept waiting for them to get to the point. As to the spiritual aspects, they kind of hit us over the head with that. Ryan Murphy and Taylor Sheridan do a lot of that lately. They kind of shove their viewpoints down our throats. Mike White is brilliant, but I also think it's got to be brutal to try to keep up with that previous level of success.
I love the show but hated the ending! For example, the three friends all chummy at the end-not realistic at all, after all that happened.

Great one! Also this "The show is by turns gorgeous, sleazy, insightful, hilarious, depressing, and frequently cringe-inducing." 👏 perfect
Thank you kindly! it's a hard show to love, but it's captured the zeitgeist so I like to follow along.
