Is It A Boot Or A Sneaker?
Bogs' Spruce Slip On is both
Hello, Gorgeous!
Much of the country is blanketed by a whole bunch of snow. And it’s SO pretty and magical. Until it’s not. In my part of Brooklyn, the glistening white fluffy stuff becomes grey and slushy piles in no time at all. And while I’ve resigned myself to
wearing snow boots all season (maybe even all year with the way the weather is going), some people I know refuse to wear boots and insist their sneakers are just fine for sloshing through the snow. As it turns out, sneakers and snow aren’t the best pairing (unlike peanut butter and chocolate which we all know is and always will be).
Also very important PSA: DO NOT dye your hair magenta during a blizzard. Trust me and my now magenta hair. You will regret it.
Slip on sneakers x snow
I love Bogs boots. They’re like Wellies for people even more serious about splashing around in giant puddles than the British Royal family. And even though they’re not necessarily indicative of my personal style, I’m excited every time a new season’s styles drop. The new collection of practical, cute and incredibly waterproof spring boots just dropped. Looking at the collection I felt like what happy two-year-olds must feel like before splashing around in giant mud puddles. So when I had a chance to try out a new pair of their spring boots, I figured I’d task the one person I know who hates snow boots — my mom— to give them a whirl. She was skeptical. Then she put them on.
The Spruce Slip-Ons are slightly snug at first and a touch heavier than your average sneaker. We realized that the little bit of extra weight actually works in your favor, giving you the solid, stable feeling you want when you’re navigating puddles, slush, and whatever your city throws at you. The slip-on design made them easy to get into, and once on, they stayed put.
Here are a few features to pay attention to:
The 100% waterproof construction kept Mom’s feet completely dry through snow and giant puddles.
The EVA midsole delivers real cushioning and foot support. I sometimes worry that I buy my mother sneakers that are too clunky or mushy. In this case, the midsole left her feet feeling fine, even after a long-ish day.
The Air Mesh lining and Max Wick coating keep things fresh, and a cute pair of socks didn’t hurt either.
The multi-purpose tread protects against skidding. These are seriously well-engineered shoes.
Here’s what really sold me though: I ran into a friend while I was taking notes while my mother tried out her new sneaker boots. By the end of the conversation my pal was pulling up the website to order a pair for her own mom.
And not that it needs to be stated, but these aren’t what you might think of as “older mom boots.” There’s nothing frumpy or purely functional about them. In fact, the colorways are both chic (my mom has them in Raisin, a mauvey shade) and functional. They work on grey drizzly days when you’re not sure if it’s actually going to rain, for a soggy morning dog walk, an extended gardening session, or when most of —but not all —the snow has melted. The support just happens to be extraordinary.
This is one of the very few times I’ve asked a family member to test out shoes that I wish I’d have kept for myself. Actually, I’m torn. I’m thrilled that my mother has these and I’m pretty sure your mom will love them too ($140, bogsfootwear.com).
So did you get a ton of snow in your part of the world? What’s your snow boot situation like? Let’s meet in the comments to discuss!

These aren't a "mom" boot at all! She's mostly not into Mom stuff either. So cute!! Love the color too. (Magenta hair? Yikes 😬 )
