Hello Gorgeous! is a beauty and lifestyle newsletter for women (and other beautiful creatures) 40+, published three times a week.
Me? I’ve spent my whole career in beauty. I’m a former celebrity makeup artist who’s developed cosmetics for the likes of Christina Aguilera, a beauty historian, and the author of three books, including Hello Gorgeous! Beauty Products in America, a New York Public Library Book of the Year. I’ve consulted for Coty, Allergan, and LVMH, and my work has run in InStyle, People, The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN, AARP, USA Today, and Parade (where I was a columnist for nine years), among others.
I also know what’s just good marketing, because I’m a prolific copywriter who works with agencies and global brands to create content that sizzles. I was one of the original copywriters for Bing, and I’ve branded, rebranded, or created original campaigns for American Idol, Macy’s, Dentsu, Saputo Cheese, the Irish Board of Tourism, and the Gossip Girl (books and TV series) and Harry Potter franchises, among more brands than you can imagine. Did I mention I once had my own show on CNN Money, Enterprising Women, in partnership with Fortune Small Business magazine?
I’ve also taught beauty history, cosmetics, and fragrance marketing at the graduate and undergraduate levels at Parsons, FIT, and NYU, and I’ve keynoted on those topics for organizations including the Society of Cosmetic Chemists.
My readers are discerning. They’ve been buying beauty products since before half the industry’s brand managers were born, they can smell a press release a mile away, and they trust me precisely because I don’t waste that trust.
So I’m picky. Genuinely. I say no far more than I say yes, and I only partner with brands I’d recommend to my own friends. It has to be the right brand, the right fit, and the right moment. That selectivity is the whole reason my recommendations work: when I tell my readers something is worth it, they believe me, because I’ve never given them a reason not to.
